Picture frame fun!

Check out the awesome picture frames we have been working on!

Also, today we finished our read aloud book, James and the Giant Peach! Tomorrow we will vote on a new read aloud book. Every day in ASP we have 10-15 minutes of read aloud from a chapter book.

Math Bingo

Last month ASP did a science experiment every Tuesday and this month we are turning our attention to math. Every Tuesday this month we will do a math activity to help strengthen confidence and boost enthusiasm for this very important subject. Yesterday, we practiced math facts with a super fun math bingo game! Younger students worked with addition and subtraction while older students worked with multiplication. We had a lot of fun!

Giving Thanks

It's the time of year to give thanks and that's what we did this (short) week in ASP! Monday we made some very nice thank you cards for teachers and staff at Willowwind.

Today we had a celebration of thankfulness! We made some "Trees of Thanks" and neat fall bookmarks!

We also had a riveting game of "Pin the Touchdown." It was a blast!

Enjoy your break! :)

Explosions, service work, and a lizard

This has been such a busy week for ASP! We have been doing so may fun things!

We helped our neighbors at New River Church roll silverware for their free and open to the public Thanksgiving Dinner. Willowwind rolled 600 silverware packs as part of a service project. ASP was happy to help with this big job!

We have also been very busy causing some explosions. We experimented with Alka-Seltzer by mixing it with water in a film capsule. Ask your ASP student what happened next!

We also had a very special visit with the bearded dragon, Joe! Everyone did such a great job of being gentle with Joe.

Preschool ASP friends were also busy helping Ms. Angie finish the "Fall Favorites" mobile. They also got their own special leaves to add.

Check out the finished Fall Favorites mobile in the GD space next to the kitchen!

Balloons and Jelly Toast

This week we learned about static electricity and probability using some very creative methods and unlikely materials.

We discussed the misfortunes of toast falling jelly-side down and decided to test the likelihood that toast will always fall to it's inedible end. We made and "accidently" dropped 20 pieces of jelly toast to find out exactly how often toast will fall jelly-side down. Students concluded that there is actually a 50/50 chance, a surprise result after almost everyone hypothesized that the toast would fall jelly-side down every time.

We also played a game using static electricity. We charged balloons with hair and transfered pieces of paper from the table to a plate via balloon. It was a little more difficult than everyone thought it would be! As a group we decided that the longer a person rubbed their head on the balloon, the more static the balloon would have and therefore the more paper it could pick up.

Celebrating Autumn

Today we celebrated our "Fall Favorites" by creating a fall mobile to decorate the Group Discussion space. Each leaf was made by a student and each leaf features that students' favorite thing about fall. Jumping in leaves and eating pumpkin pie were very popular choices! We can't wait to see what our pre school ASP friends will add later this week!
